Zeus could be relied upon to produce a continuous stream of original ideas, so when he announced his declared intention of marrying off his son Hephaestus to his most beautiful daughter Aphrodite, the immortals were amazed.
Hephaestus wasn't alone in knowing that an unattractive god such as he couldn't hope
to hold Aphrodite for long, and so with great skill and cunning he created a girdle
fashioned out of gold, which he gave to his wife. The girdle was woven in magic, with
the purpose of casting the spell of love over the wearer by the beholder. To this day
Aphrodite perpetuates her dream in the daughters of Eve, and the girdle by virtue helps
the world to go round.

Aphrodites and Hephaestus....the beauty and the beast....a story retold ad infinitum
since Adam and Eve. Aprhrodites the goddess of beauty, love and fertility but lacking in
fidelity is the personification of sexual instinct and the power of love. Hephaestus
lacking in beauty but blessed with magical skills of an artisan and craftsman. It is no
wonder he is enamourmed by the beauty of Aphrodites but to no avail.
