The daughter of Zeus and Dione and the Greek goddess of love, beauty and fertility, Aphrodites continues into the present littering her altar with the broken hearts of her vanquished suitors. The countless blooms that Aphrodite tended in the garden of love quickly blossomed and faded and the days of silence between each are marked off on the Olympic scroll as the celebration of Apophrades.
The time came however when Nemesis clipped a leaf in Aphrodite's laurel because she lost her love to the Queen of love and in a rare fury she determined to alter the course of destiny. It was therefore vowed that whoever Aphrodite loved best she would lose to another. And so the vengeful curse of Nemesis follows the course of timeless heartbreaks and to this day the daughter of Eve's lustful child unwittingly pay homage to Nemesis every time they pour a libation of weeping on Aphrodite's altar.
During a lunar trance, Aphrodite is transcended into the world of her Titaness ancestor Phoebe who is the daughter of heaven and earth. Time and Eternity have seen Phoebe's light shining in the darkness of night and as Dawn bids a hymn to her journey and heralds the coming of Helios a new watch begins, and light shines in the darkness of day. But as the benevolent Helios shines on the just and unjust, so too does Phoebe offer the light of spiritual understanding.
For a moment it appears that Aphrodites envisions not only the harmonious world illumed by Phoebe's beauty but the fragile balance that exists. From the bosom of maidens, a perpetual shower of rose petals appear to germinate the source of tranquility and beauty.
And so the elegiac Phoenix and the Oracles declare their Lunar visions to those that
choose to reach for the stars, and Phoebe daughter of Heaven and Earth will assure
them that her light shines brighter when both feet are off the ground.
- LEWIS OBI FOR DANIEL
This painting was completed by Daniel just prior to his death and he therefore did not
write an accompanying story. Since that time I have communicated with Daniel through
this painting and undying dreams that we continue to share. As Aphrodites
comprehends the wisdom of Phoebe, I will always strive to comprehend the wisdom of
Daniel.
