The young woman had travelled far in more ways than one, surely the illusive tree of knowledge would be in the immediate vicinity of her journey's end. All ends are however but beginnings, they continue to pass with time from knowing into understanding. That her journey knew no end the young woman could not yet perceive, an inner voice bade her seek the Source, the strange bidding in a familiar voice was a companion from the past, always in being, calling her now as in other lifetimes.
Melissa was her name, of a noble Argolid family that had given Greece some of her greatest philosophers and astronomers all of whom are devotees of Apollo Hyperboreus, she was a worthy aspirant of ancient heritage.
In the year 531 B.C. Pythagoras left the tyrant Polycrates and Samos to settle in Croton, there to receive the fellowship of friends and other followers of the Way, and about this time too Melissa came to Croton to sit at the feet of the newly arrived master. Shortly afterwards the young woman who had been brought to the notice of the elders was one of the first to join a religious society which was founded by Pythagoras. Melissa was held in increasing wonder by many both in the Lyceum and the religious order of which she was now a celebrant and under the watchful eye of the master she was encouraged to receive the secret knowledge, understanding beyond the realm of reason. When Pythagoras finally reired to Metaportum many of those who for long had admired Melissa became her devotees when she established her religious order in Thebes.
And so a new chapter in the young aspirant's life opened, and before long crowds gathered to hear her propound the principles of metempsychosis - the continuing journey of the Psyche through and infinity of lives, the process of change in all things through a succession of higher forms to a state of perfection.
through her dreams and visions Melissa understood the part she had played many times before and with the prayerful help of her mentor she could reach back into the memory of former lifetimes whereby she perceived the mystical ships of time unfurling their sails to reveal the ancient chronicles symbolically. In an inspired moment Melissa saw the finger of the Creative Impulse draw the metamorphosis of earth's cultures, a subject in which a later day was much favoured by Aristotle who tutored Alexander the Great, indeed he coached that remarkable young man to understnad much which was imparted by Melissa who quested for the secrets of the Universe on her jouney through life. She was a true disciple of Pythagoras and was justly called the Sorcerer's Apprentice.
